Before I begin let’s get one thing out of the way. There has been a lot of bad press about Oz Comic Con Melbourne. I don’t wish to dwell on that, but instead focus on the event itself. Yes there were big lines both to get in and for autographs and photos, but that really is a testament to how successful the convention was. It was their first time running such a large event and while a lot of people may have been upset over certain aspects of the weekend, negative feedback doesn’t help anyone. Constructive feedback on the other hand can help greatly. It’s like anything really…

With that out of the way, what a weekend!! Danni, Mike and I all ventured over to Melbourne for the big event. After a few scheduling issues the good people at Oz Comic Con were kind enough to provide us with 3 interviews with the voice acting celebrities. They can be heard here.

I interviewed Chris Sabat and Todd Haberkorn in person, but Eric Vale over Skype. It was great to catch up with Chris and Todd again at the convention, and finally meet Eric in person. They were fantastic guys with no egos and were very generous with the fans.

Bumper Action Amusements are a business I’ve dealt with over Ebay who specialise in arcade and pinball machines and parts. I finally got to meet the guys at their stall where they were showcasing some classic games all on freeplay. It was good to break away from the hectic crowds and just chill with a few games.

Gametraders Highpoint were in attendance with a variety of retro goodies for the avid retro gaming consumer:

The panels were as entertaining as ever, with Stan Lee from Marvel Comics packing out the panel room. Eric Vale and Chris Sabat gave the audience a lesson in anime dubbing which Danni, Mike and I found fascinating.

The cosplayers were out in full force, with many different areas of fandom represented. It was a bit difficult to get photos of them, though I managed to get Jesse from Team Rocket

There was also a Commander Keen floating around, but I couldn’t catch him for a picture. Danielle managed to get herself a picture with some Jawas though:

All in all it was a fantastic event. Yes there were teething issues that the Oz Comic Con team are addressing, but it was a first convention. Here’s hoping for more good things from the team next year!!
