Following from our involvement with YorKON in 2019 and 2022, YorKON is back in 2023 and so are we! This year’s event will be held at the Matiland Town Hall on Saturday, 22 April from 10am-7pm and Sunday, 23 April from 10am-3pm. Joining forces once again with Retrospekt, AVCon, Copper Coast Tabletop Gamers, the 501st Southern Dewback Garrison and even more like-minded organisations, the Yorke Peninsula Council has once again organised a weekend of gaming and related fun for locals and tourists alike. Located right in the heart of the picturesque Yorke Peninsula, Maitland is less than two hours drive from Adelaide and is the perfect hub for a day away (or more!) for both gaming and touristy/beachy fun. And don’t forget, YorKON is FREE!

Here’s the full slew of details direct from the Council:

The free event provides the local community, especially young people and their families, with the unique opportunity to engage in a fun and social games event.

The two-day convention includes free play computer, retro games, arcade games, workshops, table top games and a costume competition.

This year, YorKON is set to be better than ever with new interactive activities including a self-guided Minecraft themed orienteering activity and jumbo sized build and play Minecraft scenes.

“Council was excited to hold its first YorKON Games Convention since the Covid-19 pandemic last year,” Mayor Darren Braund said.

“The event was a huge hit with young people and their families and we look forward to it growing bigger and better this year.”

Attendees are encouraged to get into the spirit by dressing up with a Best Costume Prize winner announced each day at 2pm.

During the event, attendees can enter a competition to win a signed framed exhibition quality print of Obi Wan Kenobi (TV mini series) by Mark Raats.

YorKON Games Convention is for all ages, with the exception of a secure 15+ session (content rated as PG and M classifications), held on both days.

Partners include Team AvCon, Copper Coast Table Top Gamers, Retrospekt, Little Adventurers and Southern Dewback Garrison – 501st Legion, Cold Creature Art, Ben’s IT Communications and Maitland and District Progress Association.

We’ll have over twenty machines to play with dozens upon dozens of games at this years event. Expect original consoles (Super Famicom, Xbox, Vectrex, Sega Saturn, Atari Jaguar, and more), new mini consoles (NES and SNES Nintendo Classic Minis, SEGA Mega Drive Mini) full of crisp HDMI goodness and numerous games (hey, they’re easy to transport long distances!), handhelds, and a few surprises that you’ll have to be there to find out about.

Huge fun was had by the Retrospekt crew @ YorKON 2022
