Retrospekt has been involved with a lot of nerdy music events over the years. From entertaining con-goers during and after AVCon and Oz-Comic Con to the plethora of Joypad shows that’ve gone down in various venues ’round Adelaide for nearly a decade now.
We’ve even put on and been involved in a few recent events, despite things not going too well over the last two years. Such as society falling apart and the Footloose-style restrictions against dancing in this state (what I’m pretty sure is properly referred to as the “Shake Your Booty, Get Banished” law) things are starting to kick back into gear and shows are startin’ up again. Slowly but surely.
Two of these events have been recently been held at a great venue in Adelaide called The Lab. No, not a Labrador named Spot (that’d be nice but this is something completely different!). The venue has walls that are made of giant screens, the DJ booth looks like a C64 loading a tape, and there’s a nice beer garden with outside bar. It’s a great place for night of geeking out to games and pumpin’ beats. One of our shows was just last weekend, and DJ FreakChild (who is also me, talking about myself in third person) managed to have his set recorded thanks to Retrospekt’s own Glen (cheers Glen!) which had culminated in this here video of my setlist.
For the background video I threw in some clips from the night, as well as others from the prior event at The Lab. There’s also some hologram style gameplay clips from the Voxon Vulmetric Display that we had on freeplay throughout the night. As an aside, it’s a very, VERY interesting bit of tech; if you get the opportunity it’s well worth having a look at. For the rest of the video I added in the nice relaxing visuals of the ocean and some nice turtles by Deep Music 24h.
