Those of you who frequent Retrospekt would by now know about Ultracade Live (especially those of you who live in the sweet city of Adelaide). For those of you who don’t, it’s a two-monthly event hosted at La Boheme cocktail lounge in the heart of the city and consists of cocktails, video game tournaments/freeplay, and of course chiptune/game music played by DJ Tr!p.

This particular Ultracade Live was a complete Street Fighter bonanza. Nothing but Street Fighter! The turnout was insane and rightly so considering that the game franchise has been, and still is the most played 1 on 1 fighting game in the world!

The themed cocktails at La Boheme came at a great surprise to the tastebuds, this time round The two drinks were:

Ryu’s Rocks

and Ken’s Counterstrike. When it comes to cocktails? La Boheme delivers!

I have to admit that I’m not the biggest fan of Street Fighter, but that doesn’t mean I hate it. I mean shit, I own SSFIV on the 360, SFIV on iOS, Street Fighter 2 on the SNES, and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo on the 3DO… hmmm, well okay I just suck at the game :P

Nevertheless, I had fun and took a punt at the tournament of Pocket Fighter. I felt that people were just there to have fun and not be ultra serious about the tournaments! The music was always an audible pleasure thanks to the great talents of DJ Tr!p! I noticed when the Mega Man 2 Dr Wily’s stage music went on, people grinned and even I had goosebumps whilst waiting in line to get a bevvy!

And those are the best two things about every Ultracade Live: The fact that people are rarely serious and just have fun with the games and the delicious cocktails. It really is a perfect match!

I admit that I cracked up laughing every time I heard the crowd go wild when bouts got hairy, which goes to show that with Street Fighter’s popularity and the fun/intimate environment of the venue, it’s great sportsmanship and bucketloads of fun!

All in all if you are an avid gamer looking for a place to get out of the house, and have a few drinks at, Ultracade Live is without a doubt one event you just can’t afford to miss!
