Awww… That’s what happens when you combine one of the most graphic fighting game franchises ever made with one of the more Underdog Mario games. I couldn’t resist posting that one up for this week’s blogpost.

Nintendo have been dishing out some classic titles on the Virtual Console lately, and of course today as well. Last week Super Adventure Island came out for the SNES for 800 points, need I explain? Well Super Adventure Island is a new episode in the Wonderboy Adventure Island series. Master Higgins has to save his girlfriend blah blah blah.. Graphics and music in this game is colourful and superb, Gameplay and controls kick a lot of butt as well. Worth grabbing! I’m in fact trying to find myself a copy of it for the SNES, but that’s me ;)

But the biggest announcement from Nintendo was not just releasing this in Japan and the US, but the PAL market.. FINALLY! (Wait wait.. I did forget that it came out on DS and Playstation 1 as well back in the day). I am of course talking about Chrono Trigger, one of my personal favourite RPG’s. I mean really.. amazing storyline, gorgeous soundtrack (which when you do find a place that has the official original OST, spans out to 3 discs), 10 endings, and at least 50 hours gameplay (I guess could be 50 hours multiplied by 10 due to the different actions to provoke different endings. Nevertheless, 900 points is well worth it. If you buy it for a Friday night, You’ll look at your watch and realise that it’s Monday.

Amazing, this bloke recreates Super Mario Bros. along a concrete wall. The end result is simply breath-taking and the detail and professionalism put into it? I’m just flabbergasted, but don’t just take my word for it!

Another awesome piece of news is that NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. are finally re-releasing Mortal Kombat 1, 2 and 3 for the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. According to word, that MK Secrets posted, it should be out in late summer (in the US), and should be around US$10.. Not a bad price for the first 3 games! Next is to try and find a games store which sells the classic Mortal Kombat arcade sticks, like the ones the Tournament Edition of Mortal Kombat 9 includes.

Ah yes, the 90’s.. one of the most vibrant eras of video gaming wouldn’t we all say? Perhaps the Renaissance of Video Game history? Oh if only that was the case for many front covers for magazines back in that era. Don’t get me wrong, there were HEAPS of awesome magazines, and even more so the artwork inside them to boot (I’m looking at Super Play of course.. Anime/Manga renditions of game characters from titles they review in each issue? Hells yeah! Anyway..) 1up have a top 10 of what they think are the worst magazine covers, that they’ve seen.

And finally, props to Leisa Kitty for pointing me to this folk. Hilarious 8bit animations made locally in SA. Crude language, so NSFW and all that, but nevertheless it’s so funny, you must check the rest out! http://www.youtube.com/houseofshiny and subscribe!!!
