Hands up if you have played Doom! Great game right? Doom was released on just about every major platform at the time, even the SNES (with the Super FX 2 Chip, which allowed for textured polygons). Recently it has come back on the Xbox Live Arcade, which is great news for anyone who wants to pummel demons from hell on the big screen, but what if you had something smaller to play it on?
Like say a calculator? There’s another facet about Doom in the community, people want to port this thing on unofficial devices. Now someone has managed to cram Doom onto a TI-nspire CX Calculator. Crazy stuff really! I wonder if it’s possible to port Doom to the Tamagotchi?
It’s 2012, the new year! So perhaps it’s time for some new apparel? Try this place out! Licensed by Nintendo, “The King of Games” store stocks full-zip hoodies. You can see from the pictures above that the stitching and design is very good quality. There are numerous ones you can get depending on your ‘game flavour’ as well, definitely something for every NES/Famicom gamer :)

Continuing the buzz of Blip Festival Australia, this week’s featured artist is Saitone from Japan. The tune I’m featuring today is “Overlapping Spiral” from the album with the same title. Not only are the visuals reminiscent of something that Autechre would approve of or use, but this track is also reminiscent of numerous infamous Intelligent Dance Music (yes it’s an actual genre name), like the above-mentioned artists such as: Autechre, Aphex Twin, Beefcake, Gridlock, etc. There is no doubt that the rest of the album is pretty sweet! For more on where to get the album and to view Saitone’s videos, (it’s an easy address to remember) check out saitone.com.
Okay, now this is getting ridiculous isn’t it? First off there was a coffee table made as a fully functional NES controller, and now this! This is completely overboard (and I approve)! This amazing creation was showcased at a busy train station in the UK, to promote the release of the 2012 Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition, as the largest game controller in the world! I shudder to think how people would try to pull off the Konami code on one of those! Damn cool!
Last but not least, here’s another 8-bit inspired game on the iOS platform. Bit-1 (Full & Lite) is a basic run and jump platform game, with very small characters and enemies. Hey it’s a fun game folks, complete with cliche’d storyline as you’d expect! So why not give it a punt for free as there’s Bit-1 Lite (which includes a couple of levels).
